In earlier times New Brunswick Avenue (or US Route 122) was a very important highway called, "The New Brunswick Turnpike," which connected eastern Pennsylvania with eastern settlements in New Jersey. On this very highway Burgoyne's Army had marched during the Revolutionary War and lodged in the old Greenwich Church.

Still Valley, a rest stop on the turnpike, served the needs of many travelers. According to Snell, in 1881 James Kennedy built and was proprietor of the Still Valley hotel for a while. In addition to a small store that was kept by J.K. Thatcher, there were also a wheelwright shop, a blacksmith shop and a post office. The post office on the above map in 1872 is shown but, by 1881 had been withdrawn.
