Springtown

Springtown was named for the tributaries that feed into the Pohatcong Creek. The impressive three story Cole's Mill that operated well into the 1980's stands today on Still Valley Road, just off of Municipal Drive. Springtown had 2 distilleries, a hotel, gristmill, stores, shops and a post office by 1874. The current municipal building on Municipal Drive, served first as a Christian Academy and church and then the Springtown School. The Springtown Stagecoach Inn is an 18th century building with a post and beam extension that has a circa 1825 Georgian brick addition. This building was a stage coach stop on the road from Trenton to Easton and beyond. From 1941 to 1954 Pohatcong Township owned the inn and used it for the municipal building and township garage.
