In 1793 Benjamin Seigle, of Philadelphia, purchased land here to build a home and pottery. The pottery produced items of red clay known as Seigleware and was in operation for more than 100 years.
The Seigle family had also built a gristmill, clovermill and a blacksmith shop. Seigeltown was also known as Middleville and is now part of Finesville.
