Carpentersville was named after Jacob Carpenter who came here from Switzerland in 1748. Roper's Ferry operated here as early as 1769. Carpentersville was an important station on the Pennsylvania Railroad, which reached this point in 1854. Carpentersville was a well known summer resort, called Camp Riverside. The hymn "God Be With You Till We Meet Again" was written in Carpentersville by Mr. William Tomer.
